(Ignore my cuticles. Seriously. Pretend they don't look like a rabid mongoose chewed on them after the clowns had "Business Time" on my hands.
SUPERFAIL.
It looks like a clown got busy on my nails. I started with a plan and then it went to Haiti in a hand basket, clearly. How do you do it? I have a dotting tool. I tried to use it. Clearly, I'm not doing it right. I'm artsy, I'm crafty. Where am I messing this up? Help!

ReplyDeleteFresh, fluid polish is important. Also, don't leave polish on your dotting tool too long, as it gets gloopy and ruins the shape. Dip your tool into polish straight down, pull up, then dot by touching straight down so that the tool forms a round dot, pull straight back up. Go quickly, kind of "bounce" the tool down and up, don't hit it too hard, or you will pull a bare spot in the middle of your dot. After you set a few dots, reload with polish and repeat. Every few reloads or so, clean off your tool, wipe it on a paper towel, swirl in acetone, wipe again then load it up, again and continue. It's important to work with as fresh polish as possible.
ReplyDeleteI like the colours you chose, I think that you just didn't keep on going. If you are going to do what I like to call crazy dots, get nuts! :D Keep on dotting, in different colours all over until you nearly completely cover the nail. Don't worry about overlapping dots, it adds interest and don't fret getting the same or like colours too close. In the fun of all of the dots, it won't matter.
You can also do shapes, like ordered rows, or simple, clean patterns, half nails, just tips, just the curve at the bottom and so on. Keep at it, it is really easy once you get the hang of it.
Okay. Shutting up, now. lol
thank you!! I'll try that!
ReplyDeleteI open up a rubber-headed bobby pin and use that to dot the polish on, usually making 3 vertical rows with 2/3/2 dots or 3/4/3. I find that I personally prefer less busy dotticures - I think they look more sophisticated...plus they're easier ;)
